“What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade.”
🌿 Gertrude Jekyll
Welcome to Havenwood!
My garden is in northwestern Pennsylvania, zone 5/6, and June for us is indeed full of fresh green foliage and flower. We have yet to cut back much in the garden, and it is more a matter of keeping on top of the “green wave” than needing to cut back to keep the garden fresh. This is a joyous time in the garden, and I try to enjoy it with a walk ‘round every day to catch a tiny shred of all the color and exuberance going on out there.
Thanks for coming to join me for a walk around today!

Allium christophii
We have a hundred large-flowered Allium christophii in the Entry garden this month as the last of the bulbs before the summer flowers:
Hardy Geranium ‘Orion’
There is always a blue cloud of Geranium ‘Orion’ in the Cottage Garden in June. The bees are in heaven, and they give such exuberance the the rest of the planting.
Primula & Iris in the bogs

It has been blessedly cool in the past couple of weeks, allowing me to squeeze in a bit more planting. But as it starts to heat up here this weekend, tasks can wait as I go back to dreaming harder, not working harder. I’m looking forward to walking around as a family with ice cream in the warmer evenings to come.
Thanks for joining me for a walk around Havenwood!
And thanks to Carol for inspiring this monthly bloom report many years ago.
Geranium, roses, zinnias, cosmos, verbena, sunflowers, snapdragons, balsam camellia, gaura, lantana, celosia, lots of basil and dill…and more! But it will soon be zapped by heat…I’m in SW Louisiana/Zone 9a.
That's an impressive rose line-up, Julie, but then your entire garden looks beautifully spring-like to me. Our gardens operate on an entirely different schedule - for example, my Phlomis finished up about a month ago.
