Gardening right where we are…

Julie Witmer works to create beautiful and ecologically sensitive gardens across the continental United States. She obtained a Horticultural certification from the Royal Horticultural Society in Wisley, UK, inspired by a previous four years working customer service and plant propagation with a local nursery. She has been a garden writer for 15 years, and is also a published garden photographer in books by Timber Press, Kew Gardens, and Rodale.

With a keen eye for design and place, Julie has worked with her private clients for over 20 years to help them realize their garden dreams, and prioritizes one-on-one coaching in order to grow the skills of the gardener alongside their garden.

Julie is also a popular local speaker for master gardeners groups and public gardens. She shares about the process of building her one-acre garden, what she has learned about valuing different growing areas to add biodiversity, as well as her love for plants!

In 2026, Julie Witmer’s own Havenwood House & Gardens will host open days for the Garden Conservancy, for which she is a regional ambassador. Havenwood has been awarded the Audubon Bird & Butterfly Sanctuary status, and is open for scheduled classes and events for all ages.
