“The lesson I have thoroughly learnt, and wish to pass on to others, is to know the enduring happiness that the love of a garden gives…”
🌿 Gertrude Jekyll, Wood & Garden
Gertrude Jekyll was once a household name, and an important part of the Arts & Crafts movement in Britain, which also included William Morris and John Ruskin. She embodied the ideals of this movement away from industrialization and back to the sustainable crafts that had traditionally been used in cottage gardens. Because of her interest in sustainable methods, and also her delightful garden writing and keen observations, she is a woman gardener that we should still know and read today!
Join me today for a bit more about Miss Jekyll, her garden at Munstead Wood, and her work in the anthology, The Making of a Garden…
