
The Gravel Garden
We are continuing our tour of Chanticleer Garden in Wayne, PA. Read part one here:
In April 2012, the Gravel Garden and Ruin gardens were clothed all at once in tulips, alliums, grape hyacinths and daffodils for my first visit. The wisterias all over this area of the garden were also out in full show.
The photo above of Tulip ‘Rems Favourite’ overlooking the steps down to the wisteria arbor is a happy memory for me - my very first view of the Gravel Garden! What an exciting planting the Gravel Garden is as it’s always evolving, but I am still smitten with this view from 2012. And then there are the hot and cool combos, and the native pink azalea by the pond. These set my parameters for good planting a decade ago so it is a bit like coming home to take a look at them again today.
